Battle of the Book Boyfriends: Damien Montana Versus Smoke Salinas

I am sure many of you have read Demon’s Dream: An Unexpected Love, despite its over 700 page count, and were left thinking about what great book boyfriends these two would make. But who would make the better book boyfriend? Sure the book is called Demon’s Dream, but we can’t ignore that pull that we feel towards Smoke. What is it about these two men that have us questioning if we need to go sit in that lady’s chair and reevaluate our life choices?

Let's start with the damn fine and seductively scary Damien Montana. What could be sexier than a black man with cold eyes, covered in tattoos and blood? There is just something about a man that puts a little fear in our hearts that adds a little moisture in our panties. Now, in the real world, we would never allow the things that Dream allowed. That's why they're called book boyfriends.

Aside from the things he did that would have us knocking his ass flat on his back, he was also protective, loving in his own way, and gave major BDE. Despite the fact that she was his for thirty days, consent was very important to him, at least in the places it matters most. He also made sure that they both kept one another safe, demanding she be tested (if we are being honest, that's a huge turn on am I right??) Damien is the type of man who tells you to do things; he doesn't ask or make it seem like you have a choice. At the same time he would never do anything to put those he cares about in harm's way and will go to the ends of the Earth to protect them.

While Dream may have been a daddy’s girl, Damien came and showed her a different kind of daddy, one that could not only protect but please. Damien, like the rest of us, knew that Dream's father was bitch made. If we are being for real, what father essentially sells his daughter to save his son's life? And his son is one who constantly shows that he is not worthy of continuing to breathe. As strong as Damien's feelings are about Dream’s brother and father and his desire to end both of their lives, he does not. He spares them because she loves them and he loves her. Her ability to tame a demon and his ability to be tamed by her shows the true power of women.

Now, lets get into Mr. Cartier “Smoke” Salinas and his fine entrepreneurial ass. I know that we can all collectively come together and say there is something sexy about a man who owns businesses, a man who is the boss. Of course, his positive qualities don't stop there. Cartier follows through with his goals and dreams and is a good listener. He showed Dayana from their first interaction that she and what she had to say mattered. He gave pretty good advice to the predicament she found herself in. He didn’t judge her for the decisions she was making and her indecisiveness; he was just there for her when she needed him and how she needed him.

Smoke had a way of making Dayana feel seen and accepted even when the man whom she loved first showed her that she was nothing more than a pawn to get him what he wanted. While Smoke wanted nothing more than to love and protect her, he also understood her need not to be dependent on a man. He was understanding and supportive, but also forced her to really think and not just do things because that is what she is expected to do. 

So, who's the better book boyfriend? Well, that's all subjective and dependent on what you like, don't like, and what you will and will not stand for. I personally feel that they both have their good and bad qualities; such is the case with all men. I would love to hear your thoughts.
